King Edward Road was part of a group of streets between Berry Street and Harnall Lane developed by George Singer, the cycle and car manufaturer, in 1902. It was known as the Primrose Hill Estate and also included Alexandra Road, Alfred Road, Coronation Road, Leopold Road and the Nicholls Street extension. His factory was just a short distance away in Caterbury Street.
