Relating to Operation codenamed 'Gunsight'. This map belonged to the 30th fighter squadron of the Luftwaffe, was secret and it was forbidden to take it on flights over enemy territory. The dots and squares marked in green are buildings known to be destroyed before 27 Nov. 1940; the green shading marked areas are thought be eye witness evidence to have been destroyed. The areas coloured red are industrial areas, the red lines mark the total industrial areas 'a' and 'b'. The particular factories and targets in these areas are listed in a key at the side of the map; area 'a', transformer section, gasworks, Standard Motor Works, Humber Hillman Motor Works, Cornercroft, Alvis, Singer Motors, British Thompson Houston, Coventry Radiator and Press Works, A.P. Pressing, General Electric; 'b' Foleshill Gasworks, Courtaulds Rayon, Sterling Metals, Rover Motor Works, British Piston Ring, Daimler, Triumph Gloria Works, Dunlop Rim and Wheel Works, Aero Components Works, Bretts Stamping Co., Morris Engineering Factory, Swallow Coach Building, Alfred Herbert Machine Tools the type of the factory being written in German.Individual factories not in the target areas are listed in the key with their type written in German; Ryton Motor Factory, Hockley Motor Factory, Browns Lane factory and Armstrong Whitworth, Baginton. There is a note in the key stating that since the aerial reconnaissance of 27 Nov 1940, there have been heavy raids on 8-9 April 1941 and much of the information may be inaccurate. There is a note at the foot of the map 'beware of dummy targets', and a statement on the bottom margin of the map that this map is a compound of maps from 1908 - 1945 and aerial photographic information.
